I used to be sedentary ... and a chess nut. I loved chess so much that I even read chess books during school classes :-) Aware of my chess talent, the teachers were all kind enough to turn a blind eye on my wayward acivity :-) Not surprisingly, during high school, I was the Australian Queensland Under-18 State Champion.
But my chess career didn't progress much further ... university, job, and then the daily grind of life took their toll. But still, I managed to achieve satisfactory results in a few tournaments and was awarded the title of International Master by ICCF. Some of my game are in:
Then in 2004, I went to New Zealand and climbed Franz Josef Glacier - my first hiking trip. The white scenery was so alluring, it left an indelible impression on me. I reflected on what I had achieved in my life ... aside from chess, there was not much to show. So I decided to see more of the world ... on foot, starting from mountain tops.
Since then, I have not looked back. By 2013, I have climbed the highest peaks in every Australian States and Territories. And by the end of 2017, I will have climbed all 33 Australian peaks above 2000 meters.
My climbing story is now recorded in:
So, there you are ... it is never too late nor too old to climb mountains. My motto is "Dare to dream, and dare to go where the dream goes". Let this be your dream too.
